Oakland and the East Bay / Practical locations

Finding the parked car.

Give the place where the car can be reached.

Lake Merritt and the Oakland cityscape in daylight

You may be at a station, a shop or a terminal while the car is somewhere else. For a car-key or lockout request, start with the vehicle's location. A familiar landmark helps explain the area, but a parking entrance, garage level or space number may be what actually gets someone to the right place.

01 / A CLOSER LOOK

Station name, then parking detail

MacArthur BART is on 40th Street, Rockridge is on College Avenue and Fruitvale is on East 12th Street. Each is a clear Oakland reference. None tells someone which street space or parking area holds your car. Give the station and the actual parking location if the request concerns a vehicle there.

Lake Merritt station is on Madison Street. Saying Lake Merritt could also mean somewhere around the lake, which is a different location. The distinction matters more than having a perfectly worded description. A street, entrance or nearby address you can verify is useful.

Station access can change. BART has published construction-related parking and access changes for West Oakland. Use current station information rather than relying on an older entrance you remember.

02 / A CLOSER LOOK

Inside a garage or behind a gate

Include the garage name, level and space number if available. Explain whether the entrance is controlled and whether an authorized person can provide access. Don't assume that permission to work on the vehicle includes permission to enter every private parking area.

If you can safely remain with the car, that can make the location easier to identify. If you need to wait elsewhere, agree on a meeting point. Describe a height restriction, closed entrance or other practical limit before the visit is arranged. There is no need to post your key details or access codes publicly.

03 / A CLOSER LOOK

OAK and SFO are different destinations

Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport uses the airport code OAK. It isn't San Francisco International Airport, SFO. Give the code and the actual lot or parking facility, rather than saying the San Francisco airport and leaving the destination uncertain.

A terminal is a meeting place, not necessarily where a parked vehicle can be reached. Check the parking operator's current access arrangements. This website doesn't claim airport affiliation, permission to enter controlled areas or a service desk inside the airport.

04 / A CLOSER LOOK

What needs to happen at that location?

Say whether the key is locked inside, completely missing or no longer starting the car. Add the year, make and model. A car on a trailer, a rental vehicle or a vehicle managed by someone else may need additional coordination and proof of authority.

Our car locksmith guide distinguishes an opening from making a key. The replacement-key guide explains the all-keys-lost situation. Supported work, mobile availability and any relevant travel charge need checking against the address; a landmark can't establish those arrangements.

If anyone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services. Finding the right parking level is part of an ordinary service request, not a reason to delay urgent help.
